Glazed ham is an all time favorite dish, especially during the holiday season. Ham is usually cut from the hog’s hind legs that is often smoked or went through a curing process. There are different types of ham in the market today. Examples are the fully-cooked ham, the cook-before-eating ham, the country-style ham and the turkey ham. These processed hams are always available in the market today. A whole ham typically weighs about 15 pounds.

There are also different ham cuts, depending on the size that you want. The whole ham can weigh up to 20 pounds, which includes the buttock and shank of the hog’s leg. Other ham cuts include the butt end, shank end and the center ham slice. The butt end is often cut through the upper part of the hog’s leg. Shank end is a ham cut through the lower part of the hog’s leg. On the other hand, a center ham slice is the best part of the ham. It is typically cut from the center of the ham where the butt and shank end are often divided. Ham comes in different types too. You can choose from different variety depending on what you like best.

The top favorite ham recipe is the glazed ham. The most common ham glaze recipe comprises of brown sugar, honey, pineapple juice and a little bit of wine and some spices. Here, are some easy-to-cook glaze ham recipes that you will surely enjoy.

Honey Glazed Ham

You will need:

6-12 pounds fully cooked ham

For the glaze:
5 tbsp honey
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon mustard
2 tbsp pineapple juice or jam
Cloves, whole

Preheat oven at 325?. Trim the rough rind but leave at least ¼ inch fat, and then score diamond patterns on the fat. Add the cloves in every center of the diamond pattern. Bake it uncovered for 2 hours.
In a small pan, combine honey, pineapple juice and brown sugar, and then bring to boil over medium heat while stirring continuously.

Brush half of the glaze mixture over ham. Bake for 30 minutes, and then brush the rest of the glaze. Cook it again for 30 minutes or longer until meat thermometer reads 140?. Then let it set before carving for at least 20 minutes.

Honey Maple Ham Glaze

You will need:

6-7 pounds fully cooked ham

Maple glaze:

½ cup water
5 tbsp pure maple syrup
1 tbsp cornstarch
½ cup raisins
½ teaspoon honey
½ teaspoon mustard
1 teaspoon ground cloves

Score diamond pattern on the ham’s fat. Bake uncovered for 1 hour at 325?. In a small saucepan, combine water, maple syrup, raisins, honey, mustard and ground cloves. Stir it constantly until the mixture becomes thick. Brush the maple glaze over the ham before the ham is fully cooked, and then return to finish baking. Let the ham set for at least 20 minutes before serving and cutting.
