Lamb chops are considered uncommon in some countries, as some people regard this dish too strong for their taste. However, lamb chop recipes are quite popular in Mediterranean countries that prefer this meat seasoned with their rich spices and herb. Common in spring, these people celebrate the season with their dish while gathering round snugly in their kitchen table.

Lamb meat comes from that of a sheep which is less than one year of age. It is different from the older one commonly called hogget. Most people prefer the meat of a lamb rather than that of the latter because it is more tender and healthy. Usually, the appearance of the lamb meat is pinkish and lighter in color. It also has the succinct taste of being light and chewy. For people who still have not tasted this meat yet, they will find that this particular food is not too strong, and it goes with herbs and spices to make its flavor stick out.

Lamb meat is rich in protein and it also contains less saturated fat than the other types of meat which are present in high cholesterol foods. Being such, it is healthy and nutritious. Another component which is zinc, is responsible in giving the body added immunity against harmful microorganisms. The iron component helps in the function of the red blood cells. However, the most important of all these is the selenium element. This is responsible for the prevention of cancer-related diseases and degenerative problems. Having this component can help tone down the progression of diseases in the different organs of the body.

Lamb meat is easily perishable and it is advisable to place it in the coldest corner of the freezer. The more it is handled and removed from its package, the more that the meat is destroyed. Keeping it intact can keep its tender and pinkish color. Look out for yellow-colored lamb meat as it is already a sign that the meat is rotten and not fit for eating.
